Helpful bit of writing…
Again, I am currently reading Paul and His Letters by Polhill. One of the most helpful bits so far has been his chapter entitled “Paul the Letter Writer.”
In it Polhill describes the nature of Paul’s letters, their form, their transport and their collecting/ canonizing. Anyone who is a student of the Pauline Epistles; which, let’s face it,should be all of us who claim Christ as Lord, would do well to pick up a copy of this book for this chapter alone.
The Life and Letters of Paul
Sorry about the absence from the blog. It’s one of the reasons I switched to a more laid back format. Life just kind of kicks in and, well you know…
My next class for seminary is Pauline Epistles and I have been reading Paul and His Letters by Polhill. It has proved to be a very interesting book.
Polhill takes a very biographical approach to commentating Paul’s letters and, at least in the beginning, is pulling from various Scriptures and historical documents to put the life of Paul together. The author very clearly has a great love for the Apostle and an even greater desire to be accurate in his rendering of the life if Paul.
I’m interested in finding out, as we get into the writings of Paul, how Polhill is going to handle commentating through the epistles.
So far I am really enjoying the read and look forward to what I will learn in class.
